Jack Grealish may be having a hard time convincing Gareth Southgate he deserves a starting spot for England, but Manchester City are seemingly convinced of his ability.
According to multiple reports, the Aston Villa superstar is “close” to joining the Premier League champions in a record-breaking deal worth £100m ($A183m).
The 25-year-old captain of Aston Villa scored six goals and provided 10 assists last season, and will be the first major move by City in a window where they’re expected to go after a big-name striker, too.

The £100m figure would be a British record, beating out the fee Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba.
“The talk for months has been Grealish to City basically done,” The Indepedent’s Miguel Delaney reported.
“Guardiola even breaking his habit of refusing to talk about football on the golf course, to ask about him from people he played with – but just missing the fee. Seems it’s now on the brink.”
“He’s a special talent,” Crystal Palace midfielder Andros Townsend said of Grealish.
“… If they get Grealish, they get Kane, the rest of us might as well forget about it.”
According to ESPN, Manchester City “will retain their interest in Harry Kane even if they get a deal for Grealish over the line.”
