Socceroos goalkeeper has signed for Arsenal on loan until the end of the season after being dropped from the Brighton squad.
Ryan has been the undisputed No.1 at Brighton for three seasons but has not played since early December and has been omitted from head coach Graham Potter’s match-day squads.
That left the Aussie looking for an exit route and he has found it with Arsenal.
The Gunners have been looking for a back-up to No.1 Bernd Leno after allowed Emi Martinez to leave for Aston Villa before the start of the season and have settled on Ryan to fill the gloves.
“We know Mat very well through his performances with Brighton in recent seasons and he brings additional quality to our squad,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.

“Mat has very good Premier League experience and has played over 100 times in the league, which is something that will benefit us greatly on and off the pitch. We welcome Mat to Arsenal and look forward to working with him this season.”
Technical director Edu added: “Mat is an experienced goalkeeper, a proven talent in the Premier League and has also played many internationals for Australia. Mat will further strengthen our squad with his experience and knowledge of playing at the highest level.
“Following Matt Macey’s recent move to Hibernian, Mat will provide very good competition and positive support to all our goalkeepers and we are looking forward to him integrating quickly into the set-up here at Arsenal.”
Ryan will wear the No.33 shirt but is likely to be restricted to playing in cup competitions rather than any Premier League action, unless Leno picks up an injury.
