Denmark international Simon Kjaer has been hailed as a hero on Sunday morning [AEDT] after quick thinking that may have helped save teammate Christian Eriksen’s life.

Eriksen collapsed towards the end of the first half of Denmark’s game with Finland.

Kjaer was quick to act, securing Eriksen’s neck, clearing his airwaves and administrating CPR before medics arrived to take over.

He then went over to Eriksen’s wife, Sabrina, and consoled her as the AC Milan defender received treatment while Denmark players formed a barrier around the 29-year old.

It has since been confirmed by the Danish Football Association that Eriksen is “awake” in hospital and awaiting further tests.

“Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable. He remains hospitalised at Rigshospitalet for further examinations,” the statement read.

Kjaer was praised for his role while referee Anthony Taylor was also lauded for stopping the game immediately.
