Matt Simon was on a rampaging mission — and that spelt trouble for his Western Sydney Wanderers opponents on Tuesday night.
The Central Coast Mariners skipper was involved in three fiery incidents within a 17-minute period that led to a few Wanderers hitting the Central Coast Stadium turf.
Nineteen minutes into the clash, Simon produced a heavy challenge on Keanu Baccus, yet the poor tackle only resulted in a free kick to the Wanderers.

Later in the half, Simon attempted a header from a corner kick, only to collide with ex-teammate Ziggy Gordon. But after both players hit the deck, Simon appeared to clip Gordon before standing over the top of him in a screaming match.
Interestingly, Simon in the lead-up to the match said he wasn’t seeking revenge against Gordon for his return match at Gosford, which came a few months after suddenly walking out on the Mariners to join the Wanderers.
“We’re just concentrating on ourselves and doesn’t matter who’s playing for them,” Simon said before the game.
“To be honest we haven’t given Ziggy a thought since he’s left.”
Simon’s clash with Gordon, however, suggested otherwise.
Less than four minutes later, Simon appeared to throw a forearm at Baccus, who again hit the turf despite not making full contact.
Simon was punished with a yellow card.
The veteran’s aggression, though, wasn’t enough to fire his Mariners to victory, with a late goal from substitute Nicolai Muller handing the Wanderers a 1-0 win.
